                Aikido for Kids

Aikido is a wonderful martial art that can be practiced by the whole family in Skylands Aikikai's spacious, family-friendly facility.  Family and student discounts are available and children ages 6-11 receive a free uniform upon registration.  In addition, during all classes - kids and adults - parents and children are in full view of each other in a comfortable, open setting.

Why Aikido is different than other martial artsMore than “self-defense”, Aikido teaches boys and girls how to use their minds and bodies in new and healthy ways as they train with each other and help one another in a spirit of cooperation. Aikido is a modern, non-competitive Japanese martial art that is fun, practical and effective for boys and girls of all ages. Aikido is different than most other martial arts because kids learn how to defend themselves without exhibiting violent or aggressive behavior. Unlike other martial arts, there is no kicking or punching with the intent to harm one another. Aikido’s circular, flowing techniques teach children balanced body movement, spatial awareness and focus. Each child develops physical balance, coordination and timing along with a calm and controlled attitude. Children receive individualized attention and train in full-view of parents.
